Artist’s Statement

Play in art begins with imagination and creativity of childhood. From the time I could hold a crayon, I was always interested in drawing and painting. There was never a question of “why” in making art. It has always been just a natural part of living.

Music has been another area of creative interest for me, and has included activities of singing, playing guitar, and playing bass in various bands.. I suppose there are ways that music and art overlap, but art tends to be a solo project, where as music, for me, has been interactive.

The process of painting can be very meditative. As a psychologist, I studied and taught meditation practices. I often refer to the experience of painting as a meditation.

I also enjoy teaching, whether it has been with art, music, and other endeavors. It’s a joy for me to welcome a young passer-by to my easel, hand them a brush, and invite them to help me create.

In the future, I hope to offer new teaching and workshop experiences to aspiring artists.
